PTA Mississippi: Every Child, One Voice

Most People know what PTA stands for: Parent and Teachers Association. The PTA is an important taproot that has provided a link between school and parents since 1897. When you visit the PTA Mississippi website at Misspta.org, you’ll be greeted by their slogan and mission statement: “PTA Mississippi – Every Child, One Voice.”

Let’s Get Fit, Moms!

Some form of exercise really should be a part of every mom’s life. We moms know how difficult it can be when dishes need washing, meals need cooking, and kids need a ride here, there and everywhere. Fitting in exercise among the responsibilities of parenthood is often difficult.

Remember, though, a focus on fitness is not just about slimming down or looking good; even a moderate amount of physical activity might be critical to living a long, healthy, happy life.

Kid Craft: Bring Color to Winter with Stained Glass Suncatchers

Since winter is often gloomy and spent mostly indoors, I thought you and your children might want to make a craft that will bring some colorful brightness indoors: Suncatcher art.

If these are placed in a sunny window, they will seem to bring in the sunshine. If there is no sun, they will still be something pretty on the windows.

Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler: It’s Mardi Gras Time in Biloxi!

For families new to the area -- for instance, those who have relocated to serve at Keesler Air Force Base, Stennis Space Center, or for a new job somewhere else -- learning a little about the fun traditions of your new home area is certainly time well spent. Not only that, but even locals who grew up with the traditions of carnival might enjoy exploring some of the history and lore of one of the more important events on the coast.

Hancock Schools Superintendent Alan Dedeaux Stresses Academics, Arts, Athletics

Alan Dedeaux grew up and went to school in Hancock County. He earned his B.S. in Education at Mississippi College and Masters in Administration at William Carey College. Over the years, he has taught in Harrison County, Picayune and Hancock County School Districts. We spoke with Dedeaux to find out a little more about the school district he leads.
