Animal Love, People Love

If you haven’t met your local animal shelter, please let me introduce you.

Unless you’re involved with the excellent Webster Animal Shelter in Madison, Mississippi -- run by the police department in a system that requires school children to do volunteer work -- your local shelter is undoubtedly in need of your assistance. All you have to do is think of the frightened animals that are waiting sadly in cages for a family, and you are sure to realize all ages of caring people can find a way to help.

Breaking Away from the Cookie Cutter: Unique Family Accommodations

One of the major expenses of a family vacation is the hotel cost. When planning vacations some families may think of the hotel as just a place to lay their tired heads, but some accommodations, like the ones described here, have more to offer than a place to sleep and can, in fact, be the destination itself. How many kids and parents too would enjoy the opportunity to trade in a standard hotel room for something more exotic like a houseboat, train car, or even a cave? In many cases these unusual accommodations are economically comparable to their more common and lackluster hotel counterparts. And since these are all within a reasonable driving distance from Northeast Mississippi, nearby families’ biggest dilemma will be decided which one to try first.

Kid Craft: Rice Art for Rainy Days

 

"April showers bring May flowers," says the old rhyme.

The weather in southern Mississippi may or may not agree with the rhyme, but we can have some fun with the concept, anyway. This month's craft requires some preparation on an earlier day, or at least early on the morning of the day you do this project, If you can include the child(ren) in this initial preparation, it will be more fun for them and for you, too.

Select Theaters to Host Special Premieres of Kid-Friendly “Rescue Dogs” Comedy

Coming soon to our area is a special event for young animal lovers. The premiere of the movie “Rescue Dogs” -- a film that used actual rescue dogs instead of trained animal “actors” -- will coincide with special animal adoption events at select cities across the U.S.

Rain, Rain, Don’t Go Away; We Want to Stay Home and Play!

Rain is a friend of flower, field and everything on Earth. While it is good at creating puddles and opportunities for splashing after a storm, one fact of a heavy rain is that it can keep us indoors when it’s pouring.
